The South Financial Group (NASDAQ: TSFG)is a bank holding company headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina. As of early 2008, it had $13.8 billion in assets and was the 50th-largest bank holding company in the United States.[2] The company has nearly 2,500 employees.[1]
The South Financial Group operates three wholly owned subsidiaries: Mercantile Bank of Florida, Carolina First in North Carolina and South Carolina, and Bank CaroLine, an internet bank. All three brands function as a subsidiary of Carolina First, which has $14.0 billion in assets.[1]
